Hamish White, Mobilise CEO, and Jean-Christophe Tisseuil, Oasis SmartSIM CMO, have taken the opportunity of iPhone 14 launch to discuss eSIM adoption and share their perspectives on market evolution now that Apple has launched in the US and eSIM only smartphone.

eSIM market adoption, despite more than 200 operators supporting the technology worldwide, remains low. Apple has been among the first with Google to launch eSIM smartphones and is now among the first to launch an eSIM only smartphone after the less famous Motorola Rzor a few years back.

In the discussion, Hamish and Jean-Christophe agree that beyond technology, there is an urgent effort to educate the market especially at end user level because the vast majority has never heard about eSIM. Both believe that operators initiatives like eSIM first activation (activating device eSIM rather than providing a plastic SIM) or eSIM only offer such as Visible in the US or Orange Flex in Poland are going in the right direction to fasten adoption.

Both finally agree that China regulation will need to change as forbidding eSIM on Smartphones slows market adoption on Chinese OEMs devices.

The Truth is that eSIM is a SIM.
